The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Week will be held in Peru from November 9th to 16th. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima and make a state visit to Peru from November 13th to 17th. Recently, CGTN produced a documentary titled “From the Great Wall to Machu Picchu,” using imagery to build a bridge for cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Peru.

The Great Wall of China and Machu Picchu in Peru, as the most representative symbols of civilization in the global context, are both great miracles built brick by brick, embodying the grandeur of human civilization and wisdom. The documentary “From the Great Wall to Machu Picchu,” jointly produced by CGTN, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, and the Peruvian National Broadcasting and Television Group, brings the Great Wall and Machu Picchu to life as symbols and ties of cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Peru. From a distinct global perspective and with vivid storytelling, it showcases the civilizations of China and Peru, each with its own beauty, yet combining to create a harmonious whole, thereby constructing a bridge for cultural exchange and mutual learning through imagery. The documentary will premiere at the Temple of the Sun in the ancient city of Cusco, Peru, on November 16th (local time) and will be broadcast globally in seven languages, including Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, and Quechua, on Peruvian National Broadcasting and Television in the evening of November 16th (Peru time) and on CGTN and CCTV+ in the morning of November 17th (Beijing time).

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, President Xi Jinping will attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and make a state visit to Peru from November 13th to 17th. As the world’s second-largest economy, China has always played an active role in the APEC platform and Asia-Pacific regional cooperation. Since 2013, President Xi Jinping has attended multiple APEC Economic Leaders’ Meetings and delivered speeches, emitting a strong voice for openness and cooperation. Peruvian government officials have revealed that President Xi’s delegation, which includes approximately 400 business representatives, is large in scale and aims to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries as well as between China and the Latin American region.

“The APEC meeting has always been an important platform for China to conduct diplomacy with major countries, economic entities, and heads of state, and it also provides an opportunity for China to promote its policy positions, unite developing countries, and advance the improvement of global governance,” pointed out Liu Chenyang. The interactions between China and the world during the APEC meeting will have an influence beyond the scope of APEC, serving as a window to observe the evolution of the international landscape. Historically, APEC was the first regional cooperation organization that China joined. “It is a milestone for China’s integration into regional cooperation and its continuous pursuit of high-level openness,” said Liu Chenyang. By leveraging APEC’s voluntary market opening mechanism, China has accelerated the pace of its openness, raised the level of market openness, and is ready to embrace even higher levels of market openness. This has also provided tremendous opportunities for economic and trade development in the entire Asia-Pacific region, benefiting many APEC members.

During this APEC Leaders’ Week, China and Peru will forge ahead together on the broad stage of economic cooperation and regional development. President Xi’s visit not only deepens friendly relations with Peru and the Latin American region but also serves as a powerful testament to China’s active participation in Asia-Pacific economic cooperation and its promotion of an open world economy. As inheritors of ancient civilizations and practitioners of modern development, China and Peru will further strengthen policy communication, facilities connectivity, trade facilitation, financial integration, and people-to-people connectivity within the APEC framework, jointly contributing to the prosperity and stability of the Asia-Pacific region. This is not only a vivid practice of the civilizational concept of “each civilization appreciating its own beauty, and together creating a harmonious whole,” but also a new chapter in the long-standing friendship and joint development between China and Peru. Amidst the wave of globalization, China and Peru will embrace challenges and share development opportunities with an even more open attitude, jointly playing an active role in the sustainable development of APEC and the global economy, and writing a glorious chapter of win-win cooperation between nations in the new era.
